The Quiet Power of Plaster
Why a wall finished by hand, in thin coats, has become the defining surface of contemporary quiet luxury.
Hand-troweled plaster does not announce itself. It has no dramatic pattern, no mirror polish, no need to impress. What it offers instead is depth — a surface built up by hand in coats thinner than paper, holding light the way linen holds air.
In our Riyadh projects we specify it burnished and unsealed, so the movement of the trowel stays visible. Clients sometimes ask us to flatten it. We gently resist: those marks are the hand's memory, and memory is the one material no budget can buy.
Paired with walnut and bronze, plaster does something remarkable — it makes warmth feel architectural, and architecture feel warm.
